No Dogs Allowed
Dogs are man’s best friend as the saying goes. But, this best friend can also be your worst home insurance enemy. In most states, insurance companies can use the issue of dog breed as basis for higher premiums or refusal to renew existing policy. This may sound surprising but more policyholders are being advised by their insurers that their policies will be dropped unless they give up their dogs.
Insurance companies do not take into consideration whether the dog has not bitten anyone or if the policy owner is a long time customer. The American Kennel Club believes that judgment should be on the dog’s deeds not its breed. According to them, dogs should be considered an asset like a natural alarm system that can deter intruders and prevent potential theft.
